Anatomy continues
Anatomy continues: in textbooks and pictures anatomical structures are clearly defined and clearly depicted. This is in contrast with reality. In cadaveric dissection one can see that bounderies between anatomical structures are not absolute, and that anatomical structures are interconnected with the help of fascia.
For more than hundreds of years anatomists paid no (or little) attention to fascia. New insights in the functional anatomy of the fascial system has brought a shift. This video explains why physiotherapists should learn more about fascia. The first part of the video explains the history of anatomical dissection.
This lecture is presented by Karl Jacobs (lecturer of anatomy at Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences; anatomist at Amsterdam Medical Centre) during the International Conference of Musculoskeletal Ultrasound (icmsu.com) in Amsterdam 28th march 2015.
