Test your knowledge: the calf muscle.
Question:
Can you recognize what is wrong with the left leg? And what can we do about this as physiotherapists and/ or other therapies?
The answer can be found below the picture.

Answer:
Probably there is an atrophy of the medial gastrocnemius muscle; we do not know the exact cause. This woman has walked a lot in the past 10 years, but in the last 2 years she has been from pain in the left gastrocnemius muscle. Ultrasonography was conducted to possibly identify the exact cause of the pain and atrophy – massive tissue fibrosis was present in her left medial gastrocnemius! There was a clear loss of dynamics of this particular muscle: stretch testing of this muscle provoked typical, recognizable pain, and there was a 20 degree loss of dorsiflexion in the ankle.
